How to leave a Google review, on a computer or phone

To leave a Google review, find the business on Google Maps, select "Write a review", choose a star rating, add a few words if you like, and select "Post". You need to be signed in to a Google Account, because reviews can't be anonymous.

If the business sent you a link

The quickest way is the review link the business sent you by text, email or QR code. It opens the review box for that business straight away. Sign in if asked, choose your stars, write a few words and post.

On a computer

  1. Go to Google Maps and sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Search for the business.
  3. On the left, scroll down and click "Write a review".
  4. Click the stars to give a rating. You can also write about your experience.
  5. To add photos, click the camera button.
  6. Click "Post".

On a phone

  1. Open the Google Maps app and make sure you're signed in.
  2. Search for the business and open it.
  3. Scroll to the reviews section and tap the stars or "Write a review". The wording varies a little between iPhone and Android.
  4. Choose your rating, add a few words and any photos, then post.

Tips for a helpful review

  • Say what you had or what was done, and roughly when.
  • Mention what stood out: the service, the price, how quickly they came.
  • Keep it honest and about your own experience.
  • Don't include phone numbers, email addresses or links. Google doesn't allow them in reviews.

Edit or delete your review

  1. Open Google Maps and select the menu, then "Your contributions", then "Reviews".
  2. Next to the review, select More.
  3. Choose "Edit review" or "Delete review".

You can change the stars, text and photos. When you edit a review, its date changes to the date of the edit.

For business owners

Send customers your direct review link rather than asking them to search for you. It takes them straight to the review box, which makes it far more likely they'll finish. Ask every customer, never offer anything in return, and don't tell people what to write; Google's rules ban incentives and selective asking.

Questions

Something else? Ask us directly.

Can I leave a Google review anonymously?

No. You need a Google Account, and Google doesn't allow anonymous reviews.

Can the business see who left the review?

Yes. Reviews are public, and anyone can see the name on your Google profile and your other reviews and photos.

Why can't I see my review?

Google moderates reviews and removes ones that break its policies, such as spam or off-topic content. If your review is genuine and follows the rules, check you posted it from the account you're signed in with.

Can I add photos to a Google review?

Yes. Use the camera button when you write or edit the review.
