How to claim your business on Google

If your business is on Google Maps but nobody manages it, open it on Google Maps, select "Claim this business", then "Manage now", and verify. If someone else already manages it, request ownership instead. Google gives the current owner 3 days to respond.

Is your business claimed already?

  • Search for your business on Google Maps and open it.
  • If you see "Claim this business" or "Own this business", nobody has verified it. You can claim it.
  • If there's no claim option, someone may already manage it. That could be you, on another Google Account, or a former employee, agency or previous owner.
Tip: Before requesting ownership, search your inboxes for emails from Google Business Profile. You may already own it under another account.

Claim it on a computer

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Search for your business name and town, or find it on the map, and select it.
  3. Select "Claim this business", then "Manage now".
  4. Choose a verification option and follow the steps.

Claim it in the Google Maps app

  1. Open the Google Maps app and search for your business.
  2. Select it from the results.
  3. Tap "About", then "Claim this business", then "Manage now".
  4. Choose a verification option and follow the steps.

If someone else manages it: request ownership

  1. Go to business.google.com/add.
  2. Enter your business name and address, and choose your business from the list.
  3. You'll see "Someone else may manage this Business Profile". Select "Request access".
  4. Fill in the form and submit it.
  • The current owner gets an email and has 3 days to respond.
  • If they approve, you'll get an email and can manage the profile.
  • If they don't respond, you may be able to claim it: open your confirmation email, select "View request", then "Verify". Google notes this isn't always available.
  • If they deny it, you can suggest edits to the profile or appeal the decision.
  • Check the status any time from the link in your confirmation email or at business.google.com.

Special cases

  • Service-area business with no shop or office: contact Google Business Profile support and choose "Transfer ownership of listing".
  • A former agency or employee owns it: ask them to make you the primary owner. If they won't, request ownership as above.
  • Many locations: if your account is bulk verified, you can request ownership through the bulk upload spreadsheet.

Questions owners ask

How long does claiming a business on Google take?

Claiming takes a few minutes; verification follows. Google says its reviews take up to 5 business days, occasionally longer.

What if the current owner doesn't reply?

They have 3 days. After that you may be able to claim the profile from your confirmation email, although Google says that option isn't always available.

Does claiming my business cost anything?

No. Adding or claiming a Business Profile is free. Be wary of anyone who charges to claim it for you.
