Why your business isn't showing on Google, and how to fix it
If your business doesn't show on Google at all, the usual reasons are that it isn't verified, it's been suspended, it was added less than a month ago, or a recent edit hasn't gone live yet. If it shows when you search its name but not for searches like "plumber near me", that's a ranking problem rather than a missing listing.
First, check whether it's missing or just ranking low
- Sign in to the Google Account that manages the profile.
- Search Google for your business name and town, or search "my business".
- In the Google Maps app, tap "Business" at the bottom right.
If you find it by name, it exists. If it doesn't show for searches like "electrician in Leeds", read our guide on ranking higher on Google Maps instead. Google says results are based on algorithms that weigh a wide range of factors.
The reasons a business doesn't show at all
| Reason | How to tell | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Not verified | Your profile asks you to "Get verified" | Only verified businesses show their information on Maps and Search. Complete verification. |
| Suspended or disabled | Google emails the Google Account that manages the profile | Fix what broke the guidelines, then appeal. |
| Too new | You added it in the last few weeks | Google says new businesses can take up to a month to appear. |
| Recent edit | You changed details in the last few days | Google says changes can take up to 3 days to appear. |
| Missing or wrong details | Gaps in your profile, an old address or hours | Keep your details correct, complete and up to date. |
Only you can see your profile?
If you can see your profile while signed in but customers can't, it's usually not verified yet, or it has been suspended or disabled. Check your profile and the email inbox of the account that manages it for messages from Google.
Once it's showing
- Fill in every section: categories, services, hours, photos and a description.
- Ask every customer for a review with a direct link.
- Post updates regularly so your profile looks active.
- Make sure your name, address and phone match on your website and directories.
