How garages and auto repair shops get more customers from Google
People choosing a garage want someone trustworthy, nearby and open. Garages win on Google with the right category and a full list of services, honest hours, real photos of the workshop, a review asked for when every car is collected, and calm replies, especially to complaints about price.
List every service drivers search for
- Primary category: the most specific that's true, such as auto repair shop, body shop or tyre shop.
- Services: servicing, MOTs or state inspections, brakes, tyres, diagnostics, air conditioning, bodywork. Each in the words drivers use.
- Attributes: wheelchair access, waiting area, card payments, whatever is true.
- Hours, including Saturday hours, kept accurate on bank holidays.
Show the workshop
Drivers worry about being overcharged by someone they don't know. Photos of a tidy workshop, your team, your reception and your signage build trust before they call. Add new ones every couple of weeks.
Ask for a review at collection
- Text a direct review link when the customer collects their car and has paid, while the result is fresh.
- Put a QR code by the till for people paying in person.
- Ask every customer, not just regulars, and never knock money off a bill for a review.

Replying to complaints about price
Price complaints are the most common bad garage review. Don't argue line by line in public. Explain briefly that you give quotes before work starts, if you do, and invite them to go through the bill with you.
Thanks for your feedback, [first name]. We always aim to agree the cost with customers before we start work, and I'm sorry this felt like more than you expected. I'd be glad to go through the invoice with you. Please call me on [number].
Answer every call
Mechanics can't pick up the phone with their hands in an engine. A missed caller rings the next garage. Missed-call text-back sends every caller you miss a text straight away, so they wait for you instead.
