What to include on your invoice
- The job address, if it's different from the customer's address
- Labour and materials on separate lines, so the customer can see what they're paying for
- Any deposit or earlier payment, taken off the total
- Changes the customer asked for during the job, on their own lines
- How to pay and the due date
Tips
- Agree any changes to the job in writing before you do the work, then bill them as separate lines. It prevents most payment disputes.
- For bigger jobs, invoice in stages (for example a deposit, a mid-point payment and the balance) rather than all at the end.
- Keep receipts for materials and offer copies with the invoice. Customers pay faster when they can see the costs.
- Send the invoice the day you finish, while the customer is pleased with the work.

Questions about this tool
How do I show a deposit on an invoice?
Add a line such as "Less deposit paid on 3 March" with a negative amount. The total then shows the balance still owed.
Should I charge by the hour or by the job?
Either works. If you quoted a fixed price, invoice that price and list extras separately. If you charge by the hour, show the hours and your rate so the total is easy to check.
Can I add a Google review QR code?
Yes. Paste your Google review link and the footer shows a small "Happy with our work?" code. Asking every customer, with nothing offered in return, is allowed by Google.
