How much does Thumbtack cost for pros? Lead prices, refunds and reviews
Thumbtack is free to join, with no membership or subscription fee. Pros pay for leads instead, and set their own budget and maximum lead price. Thumbtack doesn't publish a price list: the price depends on the job and how many pros are available, and Housecall Pro reports leads from about $10 to over $100. You can pay for leads that don't turn into jobs.
What's free and what you pay for
- Joining, your profile and job requests are free. Thumbtack says there are no annual or membership fees and no subscription.
- You pay for each lead you get, and you control your budget and maximum lead price. Each lead you pay for comes with the customer's phone number.
- Pros can also pay to be highlighted in search results; Thumbtack labels those placements.
What a Thumbtack lead costs
Thumbtack doesn't publish lead prices. A Thumbtack staff member explained in its community forum that pricing depends on several factors, including the size of the job and how many pros are available, and that you can see your likely price range in your services settings, under budgets and maximum lead prices.
Housecall Pro, a field-service software company, reports lead prices from about $10 to over $100 depending on trade, job size and market. That's a third-party figure; your own settings show what you'd pay.
Refunds
- Thumbtack's terms say fees are final and non-refundable, except as its refund policy allows.
- A Thumbtack staff answer in its community forum (February 2025) says a customer not replying doesn't make a lead eligible for a refund, and that spam leads are reviewed case by case.
- Promotional credits aren't redeemable for cash and can be withdrawn.
Reviews on Thumbtack
Unlike Yelp, Thumbtack lets you ask for reviews. Asked about clients who didn't hire them through Thumbtack, a Thumbtack staff member said in its community forum that you can text or email past customers from the Get reviews option on your profile, and that you can bring in Google reviews.
Its terms ban exchanging money for reviews.
Is Thumbtack worth it?
- Set a weekly budget you can afford to lose while you learn what converts.
- After a month, divide what you spent by the jobs you won. That's your real cost per job.
- Compare it with Google ads, Angi and referrals, and keep the cheapest sources.
- Reply to every lead within minutes: other pros may be contacting the same customer.
Thumbtack's terms note that using the platform doesn't guarantee anyone will hire you. Reviews on your own Google profile can keep bringing enquiries without a per-lead fee: our Google reviews guide shows how to build them.
