How to remove or delete your business from Google

You can't simply delete a business from Google Maps. You can mark it permanently or temporarily closed, remove your management of the profile, or ask Google to take down a listing that never existed or isn't eligible. Which one you need depends on why you want it gone.

Mark your business closed

  1. Open your Business Profile.
  2. Select "Edit profile", then "Hours".
  3. Under business hours, select Edit, then "Permanently closed" or "Temporarily closed".
  4. Select Save.

A permanently closed business still shows when people search for it, clearly marked as closed. Google says it won't disappear from Maps straight away, but will gradually drop out of search results and then be removed. Temporarily closed businesses can rank below open ones for general searches until you reopen.

Remove the profile from your Google Account

  1. Sign in to the Google Account linked to the profile and open it.
  2. Open the More menu and go to the profile settings.
  3. Choose to remove the Business Profile, then "Remove profile content and managers". You can also mark the business permanently closed here.
  4. Confirm.
  • Only primary owners can do this, and it's permanent for every owner and manager.
  • Your posts, photos, videos and replies to reviews are deleted.
  • Customer reviews and photos stay.
  • The business may still show on Search and Maps. Removing yourself doesn't take the listing down.

Ask Google to remove a listing

Google removes a Business Profile if the business never existed or isn't eligible to be on Google.

  1. Sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Open the business on Google Maps.
  3. Select "Suggest an edit", then "Place is closed or not here".
  4. Choose the option that fits, such as "Doesn't exist here", and submit.

Google may email you with follow-up questions before it decides.

Questions owners ask

Will deleting my profile remove my bad reviews?

No. Customer reviews stay with the listing even after you remove the profile from your account. To deal with reviews that break Google's rules, report them instead.

How long does it take for a closed business to disappear from Google?

Google says it won't disappear from Maps straight away. It gradually drops out of search results and is then removed completely.

Can I undo marking my business closed?

Yes. Google lets you mark a closed business as reopened, including one marked closed by mistake.

I moved. Should I delete my profile and start again?

No. Update your address on the existing profile, so you keep your reviews.
